Three questions to Markus Isenmann, Country Lead Sanofi Switzerland

You lead Sanofi Switzerland as Country Lead. What drives you personally in this role, and what is your vision for Sanofi’s contribution to healthcare in Switzerland?

I am driven by the conviction that medical progress only fulfills its true purpose when it reaches the people who need it. At Sanofi, we are committed to immunology, rare diseases, and vaccines. My vision is a Switzerland where patients have rapid access to new treatment options – and where we, as Sanofi, actively contribute to this.

The Swiss pharmaceutical industry is under increasing pressure from international price referencing systems. In your view, what impact does this have on patient access, and what is needed to strengthen Switzerland as a leading life sciences hub?

Switzerland has one of the most innovative healthcare systems in the world – yet patients here are increasingly struggling to access new therapies in a timely manner. Constructive dialogue between all stakeholders is essential to find solutions that ensure both access to medical innovations and the long-term financial sustainability of the system. In my opinion, new therapies are not cost drivers – they are an investment in the health of the population and in the future of the healthcare system.

As a member of Interpharma’s Market Committee: What are your priorities, and where do you see the greatest opportunities?

For me, open dialogue is paramount – driven by a shared commitment to develop pragmatic solutions that benefit the entire healthcare system. The greatest opportunity I see lies in further developing Switzerland as a location where medical progress and sustainable financial viability are not opposites but mutually reinforce each other.
