AI technologies can be used to train computers to process\nlarge volumes of data and to recognise certain patterns in data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nuse of AI and digital technologies in medicine has already led to numerous new\napplications. These include image recognition, medical diagnostics and the\ncapture of digital biomarkers in patients by using smartphone apps and sensors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Automation\nis vital in improving the planning and execution of clinical trials of new\ntreatment methods and in driving personalised medicine. Extensive and complex\nvolumes of data (Big Data) must be captured, analysed and represented in a\ncomprehensible way by automated algorithms. The potential of artificial\nintelligence includes its ability to take over monotonous and time-consuming\nroutine tasks from humans, leading to an improvement and standardisation of\nworkflows in research and development as well as in clinical practice. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>AI in Switzerland<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A\nrecent report commissioned by the Federal Council shows that the conditions\nneeded in order to use artificial intelligence in Switzerland are generally\nalready in place. In some areas, though, there is a need for action and\nclarification, and one of these areas is research and development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nbest possible conditions for innovation must be created if the potential\noffered by the new possibilities of artificial intelligence is to be leveraged.\nAt the same time, measures need to be taken to ensure that artificial\nintelligence is used responsibly. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Artificial intelligence (AI) enables computers and machines to learn from experience, adapt to new information and tackle tasks that require the ability to handle complex thought.
